Northwest Italy

Northwest Italy - [Regions Include: Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, & Valle d'Aosta]
Home of the Italian Riviera and Cinque Terre, and world class cities like Turin, Milan, and Genoa share the region's visitors with beautiful landscapes.

Milan (Italian: Milano):

Milan is financially the most important city in Italy and the second largest in Italy. While not recognisable for its sights, Milan is more about the lifestyle of enjoying worldly pleasures: a paradise for shopping, opera, and nightlife. Milan remains the marketplace for Italian fashion – fashion aficionados, supermodels and international paparazzi descend upon the city twice a year for its spring and autumn fairs. If Rome represents the "old" Italy, Milan represents the "new" Italy. Milan is the most modern of all Italian cities, and it still keeps most of its past history intact.

Turin (Italian: Torino):

Turin is a large city of about one million inhabitants, is set in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy, a one-hour drive from the French border and slightly more than that from the Mediterranean sea. Turin was the first capital of modern Italy, and was the host of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. While it's not a famous tourist destination, the setting is pleasant, with the Po River flowing through the city, the genteel hills overlooking the city and scattered with pleasant villas and the Italian Alps off in the distance. This is why the famous architect Le Corbusier defined Turin as "the city with the most beautiful natural location in the world". Turin is an important city of technology and industry, and the FIAT automobile company is based here. It was also the birthplace to many important cultural and political movements in Italy.

Lake District:

Lake District offers a spectacular mountain scenery, and the area is very popular tourist destination throughout the year. These cold mountain lakes were formed by retreating glaciers, and the largest include Lake Como, Lake Lugano, Lake Garda, and Lake Maggiore. The lakes are fronted by varied ranges of the Alps, and dozens of colorful small towns dot the shorelines.
